Jun. 11, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Geely Automobile Holdings<0175>, a major domestic automaker in China, said on Tuesday that its vehicle sales in the domestic market in the first five months of this year surged 57.8% year on year to 101,171 units.

The privately-owned automaker said in a statement on its website that sales of its King Kong, Vision, and Freedom Cruiser models rose more than 100% in the period from January to May.

Sales of products in Geely's Vision series, boosted by government incentives to buy small cars, surged 185.1% year on year to 5,269 units in May. The automaker said its new 1.5L Vision model was the biggest contributor to the sales boom.

Sales in Geely's heavyweight vehicle product line, the King Kong series, jumped 134.2% from a year earlier to 5,921 units in May.

In the first five months of this year, the company sold 45,148 units of its best-selling model, the Freedom Cruiser, 79.9% more than in the same period of last year.
